Could the Arrow Showrunners Have an Ace Up Their Sleeves? [Guest Poster: Jessenika]

No matter if you still watch Arrow or not, you have to admit, their writers have never ceased to pull out some pretty jaw-dropping surprises. There’s too many to name so let’s narrow down the really big ones instead, shall we? First came the shocking reveal that Oliver’s mother Moira was working with the dastardly Malcolm Merlyn, who planned to destroy Starling City in order to save it, a la Ra’s al Ghul. Fast forward to season two when we discovered that not only did Sara survive being swept off the Queen’s Gambit, but she was the Black Canary — the mantle which would later be taken on by her sister, Laurel. Speaking of Laurel, the writers would deliver the biggest shock of all by killing her off last season at the hands of Damien Darhk.

After murdering Darhk and avenging Laurel’s death, things seemed to have returned to a sense of normalcy again with Oliver becoming the Mayor of Star City. However, that would not last very long as Oliver faced yet another great nemesis this season: Prometheus. I say great nemesis because no one has gotten in Oliver’s head like that since Slade Wilson/Deathstroke. I mean, this dude knows all of Oliver weaknesses and uses them every chance he gets — from getting Evelyn Sharp to turn on him, right down to making Oliver kill Felicity’s temporary-boyfriend SCPD Detective Billy Malone. He even knows about the deaths of Moira, Tommy, and Laurel, even going so far as to free Earth-2 Laurel/Black Siren so she could convince Oliver she was actually Earth-1 Laurel reincarnated.

So who is Prometheus? He’s the illegitimate son of Justin Claybourne, a CEO that Oliver killed back when he was literally taking names — names from the list his father, Robert, gave him. Sounds boring, right? The nobody son of a nobody being this season’s baddie? I agree. However, this was where the Arrow writers yet again shocked us by revealing that Prometheus was actually someone right under our noses this whole time. His name? Adrian Chase! DUN DUN DUN. Yes, that’s right: Star City’s new D.A. is Prometheus!

The reveal that Chase is Prometheus came as an even bigger surprise to me due to the casting announcement that Josh Segarra was originally supposed to play Vigilante. Now, the Arrow showrunners could have been throwing us off purposely but I think there’s something bigger at play here. I think that Vigilante may be Chase’s twin brother. What, you say? Well, for one Vigilante sounds exactly like Josh, just with a deeper growl in his voice. Two, Prometheus’ real identity is Simon Morrison. However, in the comics, Vigilante is known as — you guessed it — Adrian Chase. Coincidence? I think not.

Whatever happens next, let’s hope Vigilante’s unmasking is as shocking — if not more — than Prometheus’ was.

What do you guys think? Am I onto something here?
