Wynonna Earp 2x04 Recap: "She Ain't Right" (Go All Wynonna) [Contributor: Isabella]

"She Ain't Right"
Original Airdate: June 30, 2017

This episode begins by closing up on different areas of the Earp homestead: the house, the windmill, straw on the ground, and Gooverly. It's dreary and quiet. She's walking, demon eyes out in full force and with a knife in hand. This all sets the mood for the rest of the episode in which Wynonna will learn the truth about Waverly (Gooverly) and what she must do to bring her sister back. Waverly comes out of the brief possession — the longest we've seen her in so far — after she finds Dolls' dog tags lying on the ground. And when Wynonna calls out to her, Waverly knows something is wrong but she plays the incident off as sleepwalking.

Our mystery of the week involves a man named Polgara, his bodyguard Cujo, and a man holding a briefcase. Apparently the pair really really wants the briefcase, and that they end up getting after a fight which results in Briefcase Man losing his hand. But Lucado sees this as a way out of Purgatory and into a promotion. She originally asks Wynonna for help, but Waverly volunteers, hoping to prove herself.

Wynonna encounters Nicole in the breakroom and apologizes for the way she acted with her in the last episode. If you remember, she berated Nicole for even entertaining the thought that there could possibly be something wrong with Waverly. But now, Wynonna's not so sure she was right before. She brings up Waverly's sleepwalking incident and how she's been acting rash, especially after signing up to help Lucado. They both agree something's up, and it only gets weirder when they realize that Waverly's stolen all the silverware. Wynonna's wearing Waverly's coat, so she takes this time to see if she's hidden something else in there, and she has: Dolls' dog tags.

Wynonna gasps and runs out, putting the pieces together that he's in their barn. That is where she finds him, but they don't exactly share the warmest hello. Dolls hasn't had his dose, which Doc is trying to concoct for him, so he's not fully aware of what's going on because he's in demon mode. He begins to choke Wynonna, but stops when he realizes it's her. He tries to get her to leave because he can't control himself, but she stands her ground. As he delves back into demon mode, she's forced to knock him out with the back of Peacemaker and wheel him out directly to Doc, who's trying to cook up the medicine in Shorty's basement.

The problem is that they don't know exactly how to make it, so they enlist Jeremy's help. He's excited because Dolls is apparently the only person who knows what happened to his mom, and also because Dolls helped Jeremy do a chin-up once. Doc leaves the two of them alone for a while where Wynonna tries to make Dolls feel better by telling him she's always be there, but he has other things on his mind. He warns her about looking into Waverly's eyes, basically confirming Wynonna's suspicions about her sister.

Speaking of, Waverly's at a nightclub working undercover on getting the briefcase for Lucado. She runs into Cujo who mistakes her for the entertainment of the night. He tells her to get on stage and start singing, which she does very beautifully if I might add. Waverly also successfully seduces Polgara and learns that he's in business trying to sell the briefcase. She follows as they leave the room and eavesdrops on the conversation. But before long, the buyer's dead and lying on the ground next to her.

Much to Waverly's surprise, Wynonna appears. But before they can run out, Cujo, Polgara, and another bodyguard show up with guns drawn. They tie them both up, and ask them what's inside the briefcase and what the initials E.E. stand for. The bad guys reveal nothing, much to Waverly and Wynonna's dismay, so they go into another room to try to break the briefcase open. While they're alone, Waverly brings up the weirdness that's been going on with her. She's aware that something's happening, and knows it started when she touched the goo. Wynonna promises that as soon as they get saved by Doc, they'll figure out what's going on.

Just as Doc and Rosita are about to inject their serum into Dolls, Jeremy comes running in to stop them, yelling about how it could be a lethal dose. He tells them that because Wynonna trusts him, they must too. He gets straight to work on creating the serum with Rosita, while Doc and Dolls share a nice heart-to-heart. Doc learns that Dolls was brought back to the Earp homestead by Juan Carlo, whom Doc knows. Before they can get any further into the subject, Doc gets interrupted by missed calls from the Earp sisters. Taking this as his cue, he runs off to go find them.

Polgara and Cujo return to let the sisters know that they couldn't get the briefcase open so they're going to have to do things a little differently. Polgara unties Waverly and attaches her arm to a clamp so she can't escape. He keeps asking them questions about the initials and the combination — which they can't answer — so he unleashes what he uses to cut hands off: two spikes that protrude from his wrist. He slices the side of Waverly's wrist in frustration, but as Wynonna escapes her ties and gets into a fight with Cujo, he cuts Waverly's hand clean off.

I mean, WHAT?! It's just lying there on the floor.

They can't think about this for too long because there's a commotion happening upstairs, which means Doc's here. Polgara runs up to see what it's about, while Wynonna knocks out Cujo and helps Waverly out of the clamps. As they run out, Polgara runs after them and begins choking Wynonna, but stops when Doc kills him. She fills Doc in on Waverly's missing hand, but as she's going to retrieve the hand so that they can reattach it at the hospital, Waverly stops her. During all the commotion, Gooverly came out for a brief second, apparently regrowing her hand back perfectly. Wynonna knows that the hand thing has something to do with the Gooverly weirdness, but she can't ruminate on it for long because they need to go back and see how Dolls is doing.

When they get to Shorty's, they find Rosita locking Dolls downstairs. While they were gone, Rosita tried to flirt with Jeremy, for reasons still uncertain, but he was visibly uncomfortable. So all those times that he got excited over Doc did mean something: he's gay! And although she's beautiful and intelligent, she's just not his type. She sent him off to go get them lattes instead of whatever else she was originally trying to seduce him for. Now that she's alone with Dolls, she waves the serum around in front of him. Despite the risk that the serum might kill him, he snatches it from her and injects it. Before he fully transforms into his beast form, he tells her to run.

And so, they find Rosita. Wynonna's about to go in and help Dolls, when they get interrupted by Polgara holding Jeremy hostage. He asks for the briefcase and Peacemaker or he'll kill Jeremy. Wynonna agrees to it, but very slyly puts the items in front of the basement door. As Polgara's grabbing the briefcase, Dolls emerges and barbecues him with his fire-breathing skills. Everyone's in shock, not fully sure whether Dolls is in full beast mode, but then he gives a laugh that sounds very much like himself, and they all breathe a sigh of relief. Dolls is back, and with the craziest, best party trick. Wynonna runs into his arms to give him the hug they've been waiting for, and Doc shakes his hand, happy he's back. Polgara warns them that they're not ready for what's coming, but Wynonna's not so sure about that, and shoots him with Peacemaker.

Back at home, Wynonna and Waverly open the briefcase with the combination 6-18-40, Edwin Earp's birthday, only to find that it contains a plate of the Purgatory Fair from 1952. They don't really know what this means. But now that they've partially solved one mystery, they can discuss Gooverly. Speak of the devil and she doth appear: Gooverly takes over Waverly and tells Wynonna that she's happy she's willing to help because Gooverly's done trying to fight Waverly. Waverly's too strong for her. She needs a new host. And who's better than fun little Wynonna? Gooverly gets real close to Wynonna and kisses her, which transfers Gooverly into Wynonna.

Welcome, Goononna. We've been waiting for you.

Other Points of Interest:
  • Underappreciated beauties of this episode (and all the other episodes to be honest) are the cinematography and production design.
  • "We're not savages." Cut to the bloody hand dangling from the briefcase.
  • "I'll be here. I'll be here even if you turn into a lizard or a salamander or whatever you are. We'll buy you a terrarium, lil' sun lamp, a couple of plants."
  • Mercedes is scary now! Is she eating bacon that came from her sister?!
  • Doc stealing a bad guy's hat is gold.
  • I knew Jeremy was gay! His love for Doc was too obvious.
  • Ugh if Tucker wasn't gross enough, of course he wants a girl as his reward for helping his scary "sisters" with evil.

Wynonna Earp 2x03 Recap: "Gonna Getcha Good" (Make a Wish) [Contributor: Isabella]

"Gonna Getcha Good"
Original Airdate: June 23, 2017

This episode is also known as the long-awaited Waverly the cheerleader episode, and Nicole is right when she tells Waverly, who performs a routine just for her, "Baby, that's everybody's thing."

Ahem, so the murder mystery this week involves Bryce Cooper, the star of the high school's hockey team from 2007. A monster-demon forced him to pull out his own liver, and he died gazing at the trophy case. This pulls Wynonna into a nostalgia trip, especially when she gets hit up by Perry, another one of the teammembers of the old hockey team. When she first agrees to go on a date with him — simply so she can find out any info on the murder, of course — she has no idea that he's directly involved with it. And in a very creepy way, as we get to see him grab a bloody skinned rabbit out of a bucket while in his room.

At the start of their date, they get interrupted by Skip — another teammate — who's blabbering about how Bryce was taken. Perry seems to understand what he's talking about and attempts to cover it up from Wynonna by dragging Skip back to his house. She follows them there, only to find that Perry's drawn an algiz both on his front door and on Skip's forehead in blood (presumably that rabbit blood from before). Skip's lying down on the front porch when the demon comes up and begins to force him to pull his liver out. Skip doesn't get too deep into his own body before Wynonna shoots at the demon, who's already run off.

Later on, Perry comes by Wynonna's house for help and they find out that he isn't summoning the demon to kill his old teammates, but rather, he's trying to protect them from it. Back when they were seniors, Perry and his teammates were given a spell by their coach who wanted them to finally win a game. They performed it and were promised ten years of anything they could wish for, but now the Marzanoik demon is back to finish their deal. When Doc hears this, he believes that if they capture the demon, they could use it to save Dolls. He tells Wynonna this plan, along with the fact that he's been concocting the drugs Dolls needs in the basement of Shorty's bar. And so, queen Wynonna snatches the 2007 trophy from the current team's hands.

Meanwhile, Waverly's still dealing with her identity issues after struggling to come to terms with the fact that she's not biologically an Earp. Because of this, she has tried and continues to try to keep the town's community intact and maintain the status quo. That is why she tells Nicole to not arrest Tucker after she catches him taking pictures up cheerleaders' skirts without their knowledge. But later in the episode, Waverly gets harassed by Tucker and her inner demon Gooverly comes out and chokes him a little. After which, he goes off crying home to his sisters — one of whom is Mercedes. Mercedes tells him to back off and not get close to the Earp sisters. She gets a brief moment of victory before she is attacked (and possibly killed?) by the Figures in Black.

Later on, Nicole learns that Tucker's family are important figures in town. They have a lot of money, which is why they let Tucker off scot-free — or so she thinks. The sheriff's been compiling a big folder of all the horrible thing Tucker's done, for the "long game." Nicole can't think about this for too long because while she's babysitting Skip in his jail cell — for driving under the influence right into a beautiful oak tree — the demon comes by to finish him off. Nicole tries to stand her ground, but he throws her to the ground. Doc, Wynonna, and Perry come to her rescue and ultimately trap the demon back in the trophy.

Earlier in the episode during a bit of downtime, Nicole brings up the fact that Waverly's been acting a little odd and more brusque to Wynonna. Wynonna gets defensive about this, since she can't believe anything could be wrong with Waverly. She dismisses Nicole's claims very suddenly by comparing those same characteristics to herself. Nicole is once again left alone to think and worry about this, but not for long.

Dolls, who's somehow locked up in the Earp barn, witnesses Gooverly playing around with her collection of silver-looking objects. He tries to get her attention since she seems really out of it, but right before she walks out of the barn, she turns around and flashes him her demon eyes. It hopefully — and probably — won't be long before somebody finds him. ... Or at least hears his screams.

Other Points of Interest:
  • "Boys from here to there!" "Girl, put on some underwear." Incredible accidental rhyming on the part of Waverly and Wynonna.
  • "You've polished the shaft hard enough." "Wow, you so rarely hear that."
  • Who else misses Dolls like a lot? Like a lot a lot? ME, but also Wynonna. I love how she nervously twiddles with the necklace Dolls gave her in the first episode.
  • "Calm down, flaming ladybug."
  • "Run!" "I'm not big on cardio these days." Same, Wynonna.
  • It makes me anxious to think that even after Nicole brought up the weirdness about Waverly to Wynonna, she's still the only one who sees it. I get why Wynonna would be so defensive about her little sister, since I would be to, but this will get even more dangerous in the long-run.
  • Bless Mercedes. That is all.
  • How did Dolls get there? Since when has he been there? What's happening? What's going on?!

Wynonna Earp 2x01 Recap: "Steel Bars and Stone Walls" (Here Comes the Boom) [Contributor: Isabella]

"Steel Bars and Stone Walls"
Original Airdate: June 9, 2017

As a thank you for waiting oh-so-patiently for the return of Wynonna Earp, we've been given an action-packed episode to steer us straight into the second season.

The episode picks up right where season one left off, with possessed Waverly shooting at someone. But it was neither Wynonna nor Doc who was standing right in front of her. Instead, she shot at something else — some sort of monster that takes particular affinity to Doc's hat. As Waverly and Doc run from the creature, they're saved by our hero who shoots it dead, accompanied with a sassy hair flip.

They plan to use the monster's body to help save Dolls from the Black Badge Operative who will transfer him to Black Rock Prison. Before they can get to doing that, Wynonna returns to the sheriff's department, only to find that the work she and Dolls kept there was cleared up. Luckily for her, Dolls was smart and kept the important information in his motel room. As Wynonna's snooping in there, she encounters Dolls' friend Eliza. They get into a kerfuffle, all while Eliza's in her underwear mind you, and ultimately end up with Wynonna pinning Eliza to the bed. After some introductions, Wynonna lets Eliza know that Dolls has been taken. Eliza agrees to help her rescue Dolls, because she can get clearance into the prison he'll be taken to.

After Wynonna introduces Eliza to the rest of the team, she, Doc, and Eliza break back into Dolls' old office, which is where Wynonna learns of his supernatural secret. She suddenly becomes even more impassioned to find him, and nearly stabs one of the leftover cleaners in the eye in order to learn where exactly they took Dolls. Ahhh, the things you'll do for love.

While Wynonna, Eliza, and Doc try and fail to break into the government facilities by themselves, Waverly comes to their rescue using what I think is a good British accent (Nicole disagrees). She gets past security by pretending to be a scientist, and gets all the way to the laboratory where they keep the creatures. She convinces one of the scientists to tell her how to open all the security doors, and attempts to knock him out by hitting him on the head, but that only causes him to start bleeding. This is very, very bad as the locked up demons become bloodthirsty. In the heat of the moment, she desperately confides in him and tells him about the plan. He ends up opening the doors for Wynonna, Eliza, and Doc to leave.

Before they can do that though, Doc slips out and locks the two of them back in. It was his plan all along to release Dolls, and if he's succumbed to being the full creature, Doc would rather sacrifice himself than Wynonna. When he gets to the cell Dolls is in, he meets Lucado and reveals to her that he has dynamite in his coat pockets. He uses this to get her attention off of Dolls, who puts her in a chokehold until she passes out. Doc is able to give Dolls the serum in time. But before Dolls runs off, he whispers some words we don't hear — words that he wants Doc to tell Wynonna. As Dolls scampers off, Doc gets stopped by the Black Badge.

Back in the lab, Waverly decides to take her chances and face the demon head-on with her own demon eyes. It works, and Wynonna runs in just in time to finish the demon off with Peacemaker. They, along with their new scientist friend Jeremy, run off but Lucado gets in their way. Superior Officer Moody steps in before she can shoot anyone, and forces them to join the Black Badge. That is, everyone except for Eliza. Moody shoots and kills her for being a traitor. The rest of them then sign the oath in blood. Their mission is to get rid of the creatures in Purgatory. Before they can get to business, he asks them if there's anyone out there who knows of their work — ahem, Nicole (who has been listening to the entire exchange through an earpiece). Waverly's quick to quip that no one else knows about it, which offends Nicole.

Back home, Wynonna finally has time to take a shower and catch up with the fact that she had to kill her sister Willa. It hits her while she's gaining her breath, and then she nearly gets blinded by something flashing at her through the window. She follows the light outside only to find her necklace hanging on a tree. She looks up and sees Dolls standing atop a hill, looking down at her. He left it for her. There are no words spoken between them, and there don't need to be. They gaze at each other, drinking each other in. Dolls has a tear running down his cheek before he smiles and runs off, having to avoid the Black Badge altogether.

Other Points of Interest:
  • "He's my... I'm his... Wynonna." I'm so excited to see how Wynonna deals with her feelings for Dolls while he's away.
  • Nicole's little smile when Waverly introduces her as her girlfriend gives me life. It's just so pure and genuine. I'm particularly interested in the possibility of Waverly's possession somehow taking over her completely. We were given a glimpse of Waverly almost hurting her girlfriend with an axe. Who's to say she won't actually do it later on? Don't blame me; I love angst. It seems though like Nicole can already tell something's different. She literally tells Waverly that she tastes "different" after kissing her.
  • Whatever Dolls whispered to Doc to tell Wynonna for him is the new Lost in Translation. What did he say?! And why didn't Doc tell Wynonna?
  • Also, when is Doc going to be back? I don't think I can take his absence for very long. Or at all.

Wynonna Earp 1x13 Recap: "I Walk the Line" (Got Work to Do) [Contributor: Isabella]

"I Walk the Line"
Original Airdate: June 24, 2016

It's no coincidence that this episode is called "I Walk the Line" not only because of Willa and Bobo's goal to literally walk across the line together, but also because of Johnny Cash's song that corresponds so well with what many of the characters are feeling (and also the entire tone of the show).

If you haven't given the song a listen already, you should. But I'll go through some of the lyrics at the end of the song for you:

You've got a way to keep me on your side.
You give me cause for love that I can't hide.
For you I know I'd even try to turn the tide.
Because you're mine, I walk the line.

I keep a close watch on this heart of mine.
I keep my eyes wide open all the time.
I keep the ends out for the the tie that binds.
Because you're mine, I walk the line.

I know this should automatically scream Willa and her relationship with Bobo, but I think it veers more into Wynonna's territory. There's definitely a reason why Bobo can keep Willa on his side: some form of Stockholm Syndrome she's developed. But what I find to be the most interesting aspect of the show as a whole is the relationships Wynonna's developed with people like her sister Waverly, Dolls, Doc, and even Peacemaker.

They're drawn into her world for various reasons, but each stick with her. Wynonna has a way of keeping them on her side. For Waverly, it's a familial and unwavering bond of love. For Dolls, it's a partnership and romantic, passionate love. For Doc, it's a willingness to be a better person (and unrequited love on his part). These three people were there with Wynonna at the end of the line.

Her relationship with Peacemaker might be the most complicated and underestimated relationship yet. Peacemaker was confused when Willa came into the picture. Peacemaker faltered and didn't cooperate with Wynonna at all. And yet, in this finale, Peacemaker came back to her. It recognized the inherent bravery and drive to act for the greater good that only the true Earp heir can carry.

And now to recap the rest of the episode...

Picking up right where the last episode left off, Doc and Dolls manage to work together to get Wynonna out of the champagne-crazed partygoers — by throwing her out the window. Don't worry, of course she's fine. Well, up until the part where she gets ambushed as she's changing out of her party dress by one of her various exes who wants the antidote.

Meanwhile, Willa and Bobo's messed up relationship seems to be going just fine up until Bobo — or, as Willa calls him, "Robert" — begins to burn up. They followed the prophecy: Willa's walking across the threshold with Bobo willingly and they've got Peacemaker... Wait, they don't have Peacemaker. Waverly ran off with it and it's safe in her possession. That is, up until the point where she gets taken by a now-deranged Chrissy Nedley.

As Doc and Dolls stock up on ammo, Doc finds Dolls' stash of "medicine" that, as he describes it, has been keeping some parts of him alive and some dead since he was a young boy. They can't get too into this conversation however because Nicole walks in. Dolls is pretty much set on not involving her, but Doc just comes out and catches her up on everything: "Purgatory's overrun by Demon Revenants a.k.a. Wyatt Earp's resurrected outlaws. Bobo del Rey is their leader. I am Doc Holliday. Yes, that Doc Holliday. And Dolls here is just a dick." It makes perfect sense to Nicole and now she's officially a part of the Black Badge Division.

Wynonna is saved by Willa, who knocks Wynonna's ex out. Wynonna has Waverly on her mind, but Willa's anxious to find Peacemaker. Wynonna's worry worsens when she gets a call from Chrissy to find Waverly, or else she'll get hurt. They run over and when they get there, Chrissy keels over and Willa gets to work on untying Waverly. She finds Peacemaker in Waverly's bag and furiously snatches it from her. Waverly senses something's wrong and snatches it right back, throwing it over to Wynonna. Waverly's reasoning for not trusting Willa was because she saw something in her eyes when they visited Bobo's place, noting "I don't think the Willa that came back is our Willa." Impatiently, Willa brings out her own gun, willing Wynonna to hand Peacemaker over. At that moment, Nicole walks in. Setting her eyes on Nicole, Willa threatens to kill Waverly's girlfriend (and now Wynonna knows) if she doesn't give it to her. Wynonna doesn't want to up until the moment she sees Waverly's devastated face and tells Wynonna that she loves Nicole. After she hands it over, Willa shoots Nicole anyway in order to slow them down.

But wait! Even though Nicole was shot, she's not bleeding out. As it turns out, it's because she's wearing a bulletproof vest, a.k.a. what I take to be a huge middle finger to all the television shows that have killed off their lesbian and bisexual characters, particularly with a bullet, in this year. On this show, they've already shot both Nicole and Waverly, the two lady-loving ladies, and had them survive. Although I said in this Sunday's Summer Lovin' series: "I know people are reluctant to begin watching a new show because they don’t want to get hurt again. I can’t make you watch it and I can’t promise that we won’t get hurt, but I think this is the show to take that risk for,"  I actually believe that Wynonna Earp won't be killing off Nicole and Waverly.

Wynonna runs off to catch up with Doc and Dolls at Shorty's and finds the place and all the people in there a mess. Just prior to her arriving, Dolls was shot and — in an effort to get him to feel better — Doc injected him with one of the serums. It's the one that causes Dolls to growl, get superhuman strength, and throw bad guys out the window. Even better news? They're able to get an antidote for the people drugged up on poisoned champagne.

Bobo's got problems of his own when the mysterious man that spoke to Doc when his car didn't work reappears. He lets Bobo know that if the heir crosses the boundary with Peacemaker tonight and hate in her heart, everyone will be doomed. Well, he may not have used those exact words, but basically everyone's pretty much screwed. He also mentions something about what Willa used to be, but Bobo says that he'll be able to save her and himself if they just cross over.

He makes his way back to his house, only to find Waverly waiting for him. She tells him she's waiting for Willa to get there and while they wait, they have a little chat. Waverly keeps bringing up how Bobo basically coerced her 13-year-old sister to trust him, which he doesn't see anything wrong with. What he does make sure to tell her though is that she's not even an Earp. She can't ask him what he's talking about before she has to run and hide because Willa arrives. She watches them run off together with Peacemaker as she cries.

Doc and Wynonna (not Dolls because of his gunshot wound) catch up with them and have a standoff in which Bobo uses his weird telekinetic powers to retrieve their weapons. Unfortunately for him, they thought ahead and one of the weapons has a bomb attached to it. He notices it just in time for him to throw it toward where Doc is standing. It throws both Doc and Bobo to the ground, leaving the two sisters to approach the line. Willa walks across the line, opening up the prison gates of Hell and letting a snake-like creature slither forth. Willa and Wynonna both cock their guns at each other. Wynonna completely reluctant and unwilling to shoot her sister, but Willa completely ready. Willa attempts to pull the trigger multiple times, but it doesn't work. Before Wynonna can think of shooting, Willa is shot, but not killed by Dolls. The snake slithers around her, squeezing her into its grasp and forcing her to drop Peacemaker. He drags her away, but Wynonna follows. She grabs Peacemaker and aims straight at her sister's forehead. She pulls the trigger, killing her. She then runs back across the line with the snake racing after her. Just like sliding into home base, she slides right out and into safety.

Wynonna's about to shoot Bobo, who's completely ready to die, but is stopped by Dolls' boss. They're taking Bobo and Dolls both to a maximum security black ops prison outside of the triangle. As they're driving away and crossing the border, Wynonna shoots Bobo and watches as Dolls gets driven away. She's completely set on breaking him out of the prison though, and she makes sure to tell Doc that.

After the dust has settled, Waverly, Doc, and Wynonna walk by the line and where Willa was killed. As Doc and Wynonna talk about what they're going to do next, Waverly stoops down to inspect an odd-looking gushy mud patch on the ground. As she touches it with her finger, the substance spreads along her body and across the face. She seems fine, up until the point where she approaches Wynonna and asks her, "Are you ready?" To which Wynonna responds, "Sweetheart, I'm ready for anything."

As if to test this, Waverly pulls out a gun and shoots.

Other Points of Interest:
  • Can I just say that I knew we shouldn't have trusted Willa? Also, her relationship with Bobo is seriously screwed up because she was his hostage since age 13!
  • Everyone going crazy off of that poisoned champagne didn't seem to be trying their very best to get at Wynonna at the start of the episode, did they?
  • "I had Peacemaker in my hot little hand." Hot little hand? Okay, I'm going to excuse Willa for saying this because she hasn't been out in society in awhile.
  • "Agent Haught, welcome to the Black Badge Division." So does this mean Katherine Barrell's going to be a series regular next season? Oh, let it be so.
  • The Doc and Dolls friendship is everything I need in life.
  • "I'm the ... Earp heir and I've got work to do."

Wynonna Earp 1x12 Recap: "House of Memories" (No Rest for the Wicked) [Contributor: Isabella]

"House of Memories"
Original Airdate: June 17, 2016

The episode opens with Willa and Wynonna trying to get background information about Willa out of a Revenant they've caught. What better way to do this than with torture?

The punishment they're pulling on him seems to be doing the trick, slowly but surely. This isn't good enough for Willa who wants answers now, so she furiously shoots him back to hell. The problem with Willa is that she doesn't think before she acts. She just does. She lets her anger get the better of her and it clouds her judgment. On the opposite side of the spectrum we have Wynonna, who has sometimes taken too long in reacting to Revenants that they escape. And yet, she always gets them in the end. This hesitance and attempts at weighing her options has only been good for Wynonna. Willa's quick anger could, and seems like it will, ruin their attempts to catch a Revenant or ruin something even bigger than catching them — something far more important.

It's not even just Willa's anger that domineers her personality, but also her distrust of people. She walks in on Nicole dressing Waverly's wound for her and kicks her out because she's been doing a bad job of it. While Nicole uses a different type of ointment, Willa uses coconut oil. She's been redressing the wound after Nicole leaves, but because Waverly enjoys when her girlfriend dresses her wound, she hasn't told Nicole about it. Generally, after people react to Willa's rudeness and leave, Willa always seems to realize that she's reacted negatively and regrets her decisions. Maybe it's because I don't fully trust her yet, but I think it's interesting that she only does this in front of her sisters. She apologizes for what she does and how she has to fix the way she reacts. Sure, she'd confide in them because... well, they're her sisters. But there's a part of me that thinks she might be doing this in order to get them closer to her and more distant from outsiders as some sort of ulterior motive. She's already tried separating Dolls and Wynonna, and now she might be attempting that with Nicole and Waverly. But who knows. I'm just a very paranoid person all around so that might be it, too.

Later on — as Waverly and Nicole start to make out and get it on in the barn — Willa walks in on them. Poor Nicole ends up leaving, yet again, to give Willa and Waverly a chance to talk. Willa implies that Wynonna wouldn't be too happy to find out that Waverly's been keeping this a secret from her. Okay, I personally hate this because I've been through it before. I never understand why someone would be angry at someone else for not coming out to them if they don't want to. It's their choice. You don't have to guilt them into telling you. Before I go on more of a rant, Waverly reminds Willa of a time when they were younger. Willa caught Waverly snooping in one of their father's drawers in the barn and — in exchange for not telling on her — Willa made Waverly walk across one of the high beams where she was at full risk of breaking her neck. Waverly ended up doing it, but Willa told their father just the same.

Willa and Waverly then find the Swan Reservoir, where Willa was being kept by Bobo all those years ago. Through her memory coming back, they learn that Willa was saved and released by the witch Constance.

Meanwhile, Wynonna and Dolls are interested in finding out who sent the kill order on him and they begin with their first suspects: The Machetes, a group of ex-servicemen. They fight with two of them and learn that the Judge wants Dolls dead. In reality, he was forced to send the kill order by Bobo del Rey. Although Wynonna attempts to shoot one of them with Peacemaker, it fails. For the first time, it fails. Most likely because the true heir is back. Afterward, in the car, Wynonna tries to tell Dolls what happened, but he doesn't let her. He just tells her that he wouldn't want to fight with anyone else. This softens her up a little — enough for him to decide to show her what the cops found: the burnt remains of the Cadillac Wynonna gave to Doc, but no Doc.

Speaking of Doc, we learn he's being held captive by someone named Big Bubba who was hired by Bobo to kidnap him. Big Bubba's a terrifying man who keeps him tied up and likes to throw knives at him, but he luckily escapes using one of these knives and kills Bubba.

To try to get more insight into why Bobo sent the kill order on Dolls, Wynonna and Dolls, along with the rest of Purgatory, attend a black-tie event. Before getting there, Wynonna makes her own way to the Swan Reservoir and finds a letter left behind that gives more context to Bobo's plan. The only way to cross into the the Ghost River Triangle is with the Earp heir — Willa. Despite this risk that Bobo will try to take Willa with him, Willa wants to stay.

A little later on in the party, Dolls and Wynonna talk about what it means now that Willa's the "true heir." Wynonna hadn't been worried about it until Peacemaker didn't work for her. "I never wanted this, but after awhile I just felt like it fit. Like I was meant to be. But I'm not special, I'm just some girl." What I love about Dolls and Wynonna's relationship is that they get each other. There's this unspoken connection between them. They can look at each other and instantly know what the other person is thinking or feeling. Dolls is very intuitive in that way, but this isn't even why he says, "Hey, you were not just anything." He doesn't say this to try to make her feel better. He says this because he means it, because he needs her. The feelings that have built up between them since they first met at the start of the season reach a new height when Wynonna kisses him. It's passionate and something we've been waiting to see, and it didn't disappoint. Even when they opened their eyes to find Doc back and watching them. Doc seems visibly disappointed, but can't say anything before he realizes that the champagne being served at the party is poisoned.

But then he is interrupted by Bobo's appearance. Bobo lets the party know that the champagne is in fact poisoned and whoever is able to retrieve Wynonna Earp and return her to him will be given the antidote. As the crowd starts to surround her, Dolls and Doc, Wynonna tells Waverly to get Willa out of there. Before she can, Waverly says goodbye to Nicole, who's staying behind to control the riot. As this happens, Willa disappears and finds Bobo. She's remembered him since she went up to the Swan Reservoir. They walk off hand in hand, leaving everyone to fend for themselves.

Other Points of Interest:
  • I'm always so shocked when I see Nicole with her hair down. I think she looks really different. Still as gorgeous though.
  • "The Machetes. Another elite group. Dangerous guys, guns, drugs, delicious potato salad that'll go from lips to hips in five seconds flat."
  • "We make a pretty good team." "We should get T-shirts." "Don't push it." (Okay, any time anyone mentions that they're a good team with someone I ship them with, it just reminds me of Jeff and Annie's "We make an amazing team" and then it makes me love them even more).
  • "You know littering's bad for the heart, right?" "How so?" "Because when you litter... *punch* I hit you in the heart." Dolls is boss. Also, Wynonna finds this so hot.
  • "I want answers... and my hat."
  • There was so much blood this episode. I hope you all didn't watch it while eating.
  • Nicole is so haught (pardon the pun) when she kicks Champ's butt for being homophobic.

Wynonna Earp 1x11 Recap: "Landslide" (Welcome Home, Willa) [Contributor: Isabella]

"Landslide"
Original Airdate: June 10, 2016

Welcome home, Willa — and it's definitely Willa because the DNA test confirmed it.

The episode begins with this new realization hitting the other two Earp sisters. One is ready to adjust, while the other can't get herself to deal with it. Waverly definitely tries, but it's not so easy when Willa puts up a blockade when talking about her own disappearance. When Waverly tells Willa about what her funeral and service was like, she describes how the adults let her eat as many marshmallows as she wanted, but it caused her to throw up all night long. In complete deadpan, Willa responds, "Gee, that must've been so hard for you." I mean, I don't blame Willa, since I can't exactly explain what it's like to feel as if your family killed you because they stopped looking for you after you disappeared. It's got to hurt if you've been gone for so long and had no idea that you had family out there. After she experiences a flashback of her being taken away the night that their father died, she makes as if to touch Waverly's arm, but Waverly scoots away, as if she's scared of her. Waverly can't get herself to trust someone so quickly even if all the evidence shows that it truly is Willa. Plus it's understandable that Waverly can't as quickly adapt to Willa as Wynonna might, especially if their relationship as children wasn't as great to begin with (i.e., Willa held Waverly's bear for ransom multiple times). Either way, Willa gets so overcome with emotion that she runs off.

Wynonna and Waverly find her in the saloon where she tells Wynonna that on the night their dad died, he knew that the group of Revenants were coming to get them. He knew and let them into their home. Before Wynonna can react to this news, a Revenant man comes up behind Willa and calls them "whores." Angry, Willa grabs Peacemaker and shoots him. He gets sent straight to hell, but unfortunately, there are people in the saloon that are "normal" and have no idea what just happened. A man sitting at one of the tables was even taking a video of the entire situation on his phone.

When they get back home, Willa's anger is still raging as she blames Wynonna for not taking more initiative and killing the Revenants when she sees them, rather than following Dolls' orders. Wynonna storms off with Willa following her. Willa ends up apologizing for letting her irritation overtake her. They begin to reminisce about their childhood together and, without their knowledge, Waverly's overhearing what they're saying. She even hears Willa say to Wynonna, "we were two peas, you and I. It's always been you and I." That's got to hurt so bad. Since the beginning, Waverly's wanted to help Wynonna out with taking down the Revenants, by using her knowledge about them to do so. But now, she's being shut out of the group entirely.

Waverly returns to the house where she and Dolls have a frank and sweet talk. Dolls immediately senses that Waverly hasn't warmed up to Willa as quickly as Wynonna has. He makes sure to tell her that no matter how many Earps might show up, they're always going to need Waverly. Even though she's feeling left out now, he and Wynonna (though she's not there to say it) will always need her. They get interrupted by sudden gunfire and smoke bombs flying into the room. Revenants aren't the ones attacking them, but humans are. Using the barn as a surprise tactic, Wynonna and Willa come out, guns blazing and manage to scare some of the attackers off. They come out of it unscathed, but Waverly isn't as lucky. She gets shot in the side, although Dolls considers it "a graze." As Wynonna and Dolls tend to her wound, Willa notices that there's one more man left. She runs out to try to get him and Wynonna follows her. Willa gets into a bit of a scuffle with the man, but is saved by none other than Bobo, who kills the man. When Wynonna catches up, she's ready to shoot Bobo, but Willa pushes her aside. It isn't until afterward that they learn that the target for this attack wasn't any of the Earp girls, but Dolls.

During all of this, Doc's pretty busy on his own. His Cadillac broke down, and a random man named Juan Carlos comes to his rescue. After checking to see if this Carlos guy is a Revenant — which he's not — Doc climbs into his car. In here, he finds that Juan Carlos has the deputy badge that Wyatt gave Doc, but which Doc threw in the fire. How did he get it? Who knows. He never explains. But what he does explain is the Ghost River Triangle. There are four days until the Winter Solstice, which means there are four days until "the door" opens and she, presumably Wynonna, will lose even without Doc's help. Juan Carlos gives Doc an ultimatum — he has to choose between drifting through his life some more, or finally facing the darkness with Wynonna. For some reason, I get the sense that he's going to choose to face it with Wynonna.

Juan Carlos apparently attempted to fix the Cadillac, but he didn't do a great job of it because Doc gets stranded in another place on account that there's smoke coming out of the car. He walks out, inspecting it, but he gets clobbered in the back of the head by a mystery person and dragged away.

Other points of interest:
  • Waverly's outfits are so beautiful they make me want to cry.
  • "Gotta go. Yeah, I said I'd see Nicole before the Poker Spectacular." "Are you and Nicole best friends now?" GAL PALS.
  • Why's there already blood in the hotel bathroom with the Revenant vampires? That's never explained.
  • Dolls/Wynonna give me liiiiiiiife. Their flirty smiles are so cute. See?!:
  • Wynonna Earp: a show in which queer girls can get shot and not die. What a concept!
  • "Dudes dig scars." "Do chicks?" Best way to come out to your sister award goes to Waverly.
