The Bachelor 21x01 Roundtable: Here We Go Again [Contributors: Rebecca, Chelsea, Rae, Alisa, Patti Murin]

Welcome back to The Bachelor roundtable! This week, Nick meets all of his girlfriends and surprises us all with a perfect choice for the first impression rose. Dive back into the madness of The Bachelor with Rebecca, Chelsea, Rae, Alisa, and Patti, and see what we all thought of Nick’s return to TV, dolphin vs. shark, and our predictions for the season. We’ll also be playing in our own Bachelor Fantasy League — and we’ll be sharing our standings each week right here!

Dolphin or Shark? And who do you think had the best entrance?

Rebecca: Clearly a shark, although I love her enthusiasm. Alexis is actually one of my favorites already. She’s adorable and I love that she doesn’t take herself so seriously. My favorite entrance was Lacey’s, on the camel. I thought that was clever and it made me laugh! I was expecting the other women to make fun of her, but I thought it was hilarious that they were jealous and wished they had thought of it.

Chelsea: Okay I really loved Dolphin/Shark/Whale gal. I don’t think she’s gonna capture Nick’s heart but she’s going to be the best person on Paradise this summer. She’s fun and I love that she has goals that aren’t super serious but also not entirely dumb. Who doesn’t want to hang out with Alexis? Most of the other entrances were either cringe-worthy or from a sane person.

Rae: 100% a shark. I am sort of glad Nick kept her around — I feel like usually the wackiest entrances get cut. I have to say that I am a pretty boring person not impressed with shenanigans, so I usually don’t like entrance gimmicks. The worst gimmick by far was sleeping with the Bachelor and then acting like you had never met him before.

Alisa: Obviously a shark. I mean, it had gills, whereas dolphins are mammals and are gill-less. Hey, does knowing that make me more of an aspiring dolphin trainer than Alexis? Either way, I too liked Alexis despite her questionable sea creature knowledge. She was hilarious and the only one that seemed to be having a good time. She’s going to bring some light-hearted fun to the mansion to help balance all the weeping and drama that will undoubtedly begin soon. As for the other entrances, all I remember is a sea of red dresses and sequins.

Patti: I mean, that’s a shark costume. There’s literally no question. I did like her though, and honestly it made me like Nick more to see him joke around with her and play along without making her feel like an idiot. Also, she must be awesome if all of the other girls really like her. I mean, the food throwing/mouth catching scene? That’s the kind of stuff I want to see more of! Best entrance? There weren’t as many insane ones as in the past, so I’m going to say Rachel, since she was normal and fantastic.

This is Nick’s redemption tour, but what do we think — is he on his way to being redeemed in your eyes?

Rebecca: Nah... well, maybe. Usually, I really like the (future) Bachelor when he’s on The Bachelorette, but by the time we get mid-way through The Bachelor, I can’t stand him. Maybe it will be the opposite this time: I didn’t like Nick on The Bachelorette, so perhaps I’ll like him when he’s the star of the show. All I’m saying is that he’s had three unsuccessful ventures with three different women in the Bachelor world, perhaps it’s time to take a look at what factor each of those relationships has had in common. Of course I’m rooting for him, though.

Chelsea: The only history I have with Nick is from Paradise this summer and I’ve been told that he’s done a complete 180 on how he presents himself on TV. I liked him on Paradise though he got boring toward the end, but I’m rooting for him to find love. He has a few good options. He will be more entertaining than Ben, since he has a personality. Last season was almost painful.

Rae: I don’t know! I find him so irritating and so many of the things he does are pretty gross. I’ve said this before, and this is the last time I’ll bring it up, but he reminds me so much of one of my exes, so I think that makes me biased in a bad way. He was fun to watch on Bachelor in Paradise, but I very much wish he would stop mumbling.

Alisa: Nick’s okay. Which is pretty high praise from me. I’ve loathed pretty much every single Bachelor pick from night one of their respective seasons. At least this season should be pretty entertaining, which is more than I can say for last season’s snooze-fest. And I honestly think Nick gets kind of a bad rap. I mean, sure he crashed Kaitlyn’s season after being heartbroken in Andi’s season, but he was clearly the better man in Andi’s season, so why do we hate him again? I fell asleep during most of Andi’s episodes so I don’t really remember what was so despicable about him back then, but he was entertaining enough on Paradise to have earned his star on the Bachelor walk of fame. So I say bring it on! Hopefully by the end of all this he’ll find a nice girl to date for the obligatory three months.

Patti: I don’t know. I hope so? It bothered me the way he treated Liz, because if he can change his entire personality, why can’t she change her mind on wanting to date him after she saw how he changed? It’s such a double standard. I’m not a fan of Liz — and her delight at being forgotten by a man she slept with — but I think she deserved better than that. I mean, he is 35, so hopefully he’s sowed enough oats (and been on enough seasons) that he’s ready to settle down.

On the OTHER other hand, he’s a good looking 35 year old who lives in Chicago, a.k.a. one of the easiest cities in the world to meet other good looking humans who want to settle down. So why go back for more if he is really serious about just finding a wife and not extending his 4,000 minutes of fame?

I know it’s early, but who are your predictions for the top four girls? We can check back in later this season.

Rebecca: Liz, Rachel (my favorite!), Danielle M., and Vanessa

Chelsea: Rachel, Vanessa, Corinne, and Nurse Danielle. I LOVE Rachel, Vanessa, and Nurse Danielle and want Rachel to be the Bachelorette already. The three are smart, strong women that seem perfectly sane and too good for this show. I want to be their best friend.

I hate Corinne — a.k.a., Ivanka Trump clone — but I just feel like they’ll keep her around so we can see her nanny at hometowns.

Rae: Rachel, Danielle M., Vanessa, and Sarah. I think he’ll end up with Vanessa, maybe with Danielle as runner-up? I am not good at predictions.

Alisa: I feel like the producers actually did a great job for once with these ladies. So many smart, talented, beautiful women who deserve way better than reality TV love. My favorites are Vanessa, Rachel (who I agree needs to be the next Bachelorette!), and Nurse Danielle. I don’t remember anyone else’s names yet but there were quite a few others who seemed nice and genuine. But since some awful contestant always makes it to the top four, I’ll agree with Chelsea and say Corinne and her platinum body parts makes it to hometowns.

Patti: Nurse Danielle, Raven, Corinne (I say she gets dumped after hometowns), and Rachel. And Vanessa. I cheated.

Also, this season, your favorite Just About Write roundtablers are in a Bachelor Fantasy League! Each week, we’ll update you on our rankings.
